NBSV 045: Ren Jones on guilt associated with self care, 4 gates of health, and B.S. on scale weight

Vegan fitness coach Ren Jones

After losing his brother to a heart attack, sister to substance abuse, and mom to long term illness, Ren Jones left the corporate world and became a certified personal trainer, corrective exercise specialist, and nutrition coach.

Ren says, “I want people to understand the centre point from which I coach. It has nothing to do with getting into a bikini, it has very little to do with taking pictures for Instagram, it has pretty much zero to do with how fast or quickly you make changes. It has everything to do with your ability to not be a burden to yourself, to your family, and to be around. Because all of these [losses] happened before my 40th birthday.”

Listen below!

Important topics and points you don't want to miss:

>> How losing his close family members shaped his view of health, choice of career, and the types of people with whom he works.

>> The myth that scale weight/BMI is the best way to track progress.

>> The myth that sweat is an indication of fat loss (or a good workout).

>> The guilt often associated with self-care, when people feel conflicted about putting themselves first.

>> The four "gates" people pass through as they begin (and maintain) their health journeys.
